poem | astronaut

I fly above the oceans
and high above the ground

I bathe myself in starlight
the silence safe and sound

I close my eyes and listen
to the murmur in the clouds

and the gentle whisper of planets
as the air around them bows

then the planets collectively inhale
like they're preparing for a crowd

then they sing their song of asteroids
that are worryingly earthbound

but you just keep spinning silently
even as the asteroids comes hurtling down

and I hope I have your courage
when I rejoin my people on the ground.
